Neal Ross Campbell, (Pictures) 69, of Sturbridge, MA, formerly of Scituate, passed away Feb 12th with his wife and three children at his side, after a short, but courageous battle against cancer. An honorably discharged veteran of The United States Coast Guard, Neal had been active in the Lightship Sailors Association, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He served on the Board of Directors of The Jimmy Fund Council and the NE Primate Sanctuary and enjoyed sailing, reading, military history, volunteering with animals, and time spent with family and friends. He was happiest making people laugh. Neal is survived by his wife, Dianne Harper of Sturbridge, his three children - Michelle Campbell-Gaylord of Hull, Melissa Smith and her three sons (Douglas, Maxwell and Ian) of Carver, and Michael P. Campbell of Nantucket. He is also survived by three stepchildren - Lori Furtado of Lowell, Jay Harper of Southbury, CT, Christian Harper of Shrewsbury, and their children: Matthew, Jeffrey, Megan, Nick, Jared and Madison. A service will be held this spring at The National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to help the ongoing restoration of the Nantucket Lightship as a floating museum in Boston Harbor. Send to: "US Lightship Museum" PO Box 454, Amesbury, MA 01913 or www.nantucketlightshiplv-112.org and please reference Neal's name.
