(1944-1945: After completing wartime service with Navy, vessel was returned to Coast Guard control and brought from Key Vest FL to Chelsea MA under command of Capt Asbury Hanna and assigned Relief duty. Vessel replaced on Portland Station Sept 29, 1945 when the station was reactivated)

HISTORICAL NOTES: LV 90 / WAL 514-
1920: Dec 2, during heavy gale while relieving Nantucket, parted chain and drifted 24 miles east, unable to make headway toward station so steamed to New Bedford via Pollock Rip channel and Nantucket Sound-
1923: Mar 6, Struck a rock and sunk while transiting Quick's Hole (MA); later raised, repaired and restored to service-
1926: Feb 1, while relieving Pollock Rip, during ENE gale, boarding seas demolished port and starboard boats, ship dragged 200 yards. Feb 4, gale and snow squalls continued, heavy seas stove in pilot house ports and sheathing, spare anchor rolled off rail striking hull and starting rivets causing leaks; later parted chain, could not make headway and would not answer helm; blown broadside through Pollock Rip channel and anchored SW of Stonehorse LV; tender supplied new chain and anchor; regained station Feb 6. On Feb 10, ENE gale with sleet and snow caused heavy icing; both lights extinguished at 0300 and fog signal malfunctioned due to icing; heavy cross seas boarding ship continuously and dragged into breakers SW of station; regained station when wind diminished at 2300


RETIRED FROM LIGHTSHIP DUTY: 1952; AGE: 44

SUBSEQUENT DISPOSITION: Decommissioned Sep 30, 1952; sold Jul 21, 1955
