THE ORIGINATION OF THE USCG LIGHTSHIP SAILORS ASSOC. INTERNATIONAL, INC.

1

As many of our current members have joined our fraternity since October 2004, they may not be aware of our very early beginnings and founding, and those that set the stage for those of us that followed, following is a very brief overview of those efforts:

Our organization by name is USCG Lightship Sailors Assoc, AKA The LSA.

Sometime in the mid to late 1990's, Marty Krzywicky, a Lightship Sailor off of Pollock Rip LV114/536 1958-1959, had a vision regarding Lightships and Lightship Sailors. His efforts started to come together sometime early 1999 with a reunion scheduled for 21 August 1999 in Quincy, MA with 31 individuals recognized as Founding Members, which included 5 Honorary Members, with Robert Macleod having been elected president.

He was soon joined by Jim Gill, Lightship Sailor off of San Francisco WLV612 and became a second driving force with Marty, still serving as Web-Master. Jim Gill remained president until 2003 with his untimely crossing of the bar, he was succeeded by Dennis Cosmo ( Lightship Sailor 613 Relief 1970-1972 and Boston WLV 189 1973 ), !st VP and served as president until the next election in 2004 at Astoria, OR where Larry Ryan ( WAL 605 Overfalls and Blunts Reef 1960-1961 ) was elected president. An active board of directors was elected, and contribute to the management (without compensation of any kind ).

The periodic publishing of the newsletter was started in 2004, moved in house for printing and mailing in late 2005, with amended By-laws calling for four (4) editions per year.

Due to financial and International memberships, The LSA re-incorporated, again as a not for profit 501 C (3) Delaware corporation in January 2007.

In 2008 ownership of the Web-site was transferred from Marty Krzywicky ( original web master ) to The LSA, where Rick Gryder, USA was elected as a director at Large and appointed Web Master.

The Web Master is our main conduit in preserving all of our history, and is most vital to our continued success.
