Zinc Anodes. They are bolted at various locations on the hull below the waterline and are to help mitigate the corrosive effects of electrolisis in the water. The electrolisis attacks the Zinc Anodes instead of the ships steel plating, propeller and shaft. The Zincs eventually corrode away and are replaced periodically by divers rather than dry-docking.
