LCDR Richard J. Kilroy (USCG-Ret) passed away on March 17, 2013. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 17, 1928. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and retired from the US Coast Guard in 1977, with over 30 years of combined military service. LCDR Kilroy's ship assignments included: USS Ranger; CV4; APB 38; Mobile Boat Pool Guantanamo, Cuba; MSTS Margret Fuller; CGC Evergreen; CGC Unimak; CG8004; CG9500; CGC Gentian; and CGC Oak. His command assignments included: Fire Island Station, NY; WAL 519 (LS Relief); Group Commander, Shinnecock, NY; and Group Commander Two Rivers, WI (Western Lake Michigan). His final assignment was as Chief of Operations, Reserve Training Center, Yorktown, VA.

Since his military retirement, he resided in Newport News, VA and was active in real estate sales and education. He received his Bachelor's degree in Business from St. Leo's College and a Masters in Business Administration from Golden Gate University. He was a member of: Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church; Kilauea F and AM, Hilo, HI; and the USCG Lightship Sailors Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred L. and Ruth L. Kilroy of Halifax, MA, and a sister, Barbara. He is survived by: his beloved wife Catherine (Pat) of 60 years; daughter Deborah and son-in-law Rick Barrow of Christiansburg, VA; son Richard Jr., LTC-US Army (ret) and daughter-in-law Lori of Southern Pines, NC; granddaughters Ginny, Rebekah, Katy, and Maggy; and great granddaughter Raegan.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 20 from 6 to 7 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel followd by interment with full military honors at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
